It isn’t perfect. It could have a bit more maple flavour, a little less carraway. It needs more consistency. More apparent is the slightly burnt tops because I forgot my oven actually works.

University eats up your soul one way or another: it either swamps you socially, overwhelms you academically, or amplifies your isolation as you trek to and from school back home. I can’t take credit for this one: a friend of mine equally obsessed with food had made it after braving one of the worst snow storms in the year to get the ingredients. I had made shortbread cookies and ameretti, and he chose the lighter and more Asian influenced compliment.
